FAQ
Dasher basics
86 short answers for the person running the site and for someone using the chat. Connecting the site itself is in the install guide.
The basics
What is dasher?
Dasher is the support assistant on your website. A customer opens the chat, dasher looks up what you enabled, and it requests the action you turned on.
What is Dash?
Dash is where you sign in. You read chats, approve requests, write notes, and set up the chat button from the dashboard.
Who is the dashboard for?
The owner of the site. Customers stay in the chat on your pages. The dashboard asks you to sign in.
Can I ask dasher to run the dashboard?
Yes. Support is a tab in the dashboard. Ask him to check the inbox, change the greeting, add a rule, equip a tool, reply to a customer, or approve a request you name. The playground on Overview is the chat your customers get.
What kinds of sites can use it?
A Shopify store, a WooCommerce store, or any other web app. On any other site you name the tools yourself: a lookup, a booking, a membership change, or whatever that app can do.
Do customers create a Dash account?
They use the chat on your site. You are the person who signs in to Dash.
Can I try it before a live store is connected?
Yes. Sign-up creates a demo catalog, and Overview includes a playground with sample orders.
What does a normal chat look like?
The customer asks for help. Dasher uses your notes, and it runs a lookup when the question needs an order, a balance, or another account detail you enabled. Money movement and other decisions wait for you.
Your account
How do I start?
Choose Start free on the home page. Continue with Google, or create an account with email and a password.
Can I sign in with Google?
Yes. The sign-in page has Continue with Google, and it also has email and password.
How long does the password need to be?
6–24 characters.
I forgot my password. Where do I reset it?
The sign-in page has Google and email. It has no reset link. Use Google if that is how you created the account, or sign in with the password you chose.
How many sites does one login run?
One login runs one site. Create another account for a second site.
Can teammates have their own logins?
The owner login opens the inbox and the approval list. Someone who should approve requests uses that same login. There is no invite screen.
How do I sign out?
Sign out is at the bottom of the dashboard sidebar.
Where do I choose Shopify, WooCommerce, or another site?
Integration & Widget. Shopify uses Install on Shopify, or a Dev Dashboard Client ID and Client secret. WooCommerce uses Connect WooCommerce. Any website is on accounts that have it.
What is ready right after I sign up?
Your site and a demo catalog are set up automatically, so the playground has something to look up.
The chat on your site
How do I put the chat on my site?
On Shopify, install the app and turn on the Dasher chat embed. If you connected with a Client ID, paste the script from Integration & Widget onto the theme. Everywhere else, copy that script onto the pages that should show the button.
Where does the button sit?
In a bottom corner of the page. Integration & Widget lets you pick the left or the right corner.
Can I change the color?
Yes. Set the color in Integration & Widget. That saved color is used when the page leaves the color alone.
Can I change the greeting?
Yes. Greeting message in Integration & Widget is the first line inside the chat.
What should the greeting say?
Match the site. A store can talk about orders. A casino, a trading site, or another product should talk about the help you actually offer there.
Does it work on a phone?
The button stays in the corner, and the chat opens over the page.
Can I show the chat on only some pages?
Add the script only on the pages that should show it.
How do I remove the chat?
Remove the script from the page. The button leaves with it.
Can I limit which websites show my chat?
Allowed websites in Integration & Widget takes one address per line. An empty list means any page with your script can show the chat.
Where do I preview the chat?
Integration & Widget has a live preview. Overview has a playground. Both use your current settings.
Where are the install steps?
The install guide. This FAQ stays on everyday questions about how the chat and the dashboard behave.
What a customer can do
How does a customer open the chat?
They press the corner button. The greeting is the first message they see.
How do they send a message?
They type and press Send, or press Enter. Shift plus Enter starts a new line.
Can they send a screenshot?
While dasher is answering, Attach screenshot takes one PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF under 1 MB.
Can they open an earlier chat?
Your chats, in the chat header, lists earlier conversations from this browser.
How do they end the chat?
End chat closes it. They can leave a star rating and an optional note. New conversation starts a fresh chat after that.
Can they mute sounds?
The speaker button in the chat header mutes or enables sounds. Sound effects in Integration & Widget is the switch for the site.
What do the status lines mean?
Online · replies instantly means dasher is answering. Waiting for a team member… means a person was asked to join. A team member is here means your team owns the chat. This chat has ended means the conversation is closed.
How does a customer reach a person?
They ask. With Team joins the chat live, your team joins the same window. With Team follows up by email, dasher asks for an email and the case is listed so you can reply by email.
Can they look up someone else's order?
Help stays on the account this chat is about. An email this chat has not already matched to an order does not open that order.
Can they see refund history?
Refund history shows refunds for an email this conversation already matched to a real order.
What if they send a burst of messages?
A very fast burst from the same visitor is slowed down.
Can they edit a message after sending it?
They send a follow-up message. A sent message stays as it was.
Should a customer type a password into the chat?
Keep passwords out of the chat. The customer should stay signed in on your site, and dasher should look up the account from there.
Answers and actions
Where do answers come from?
From the rules you save in Train dasher, and from lookups you turned on. He says the rule as himself. An order, a balance, or another account detail has to come back from that lookup.
What if dasher does not know the answer?
If they claim a fee, a deadline, or a bonus the rules do not allow, he says that is not how it works. If there is no rule and no lookup, he offers a person. Add the rule when that question should have an answer next time.
Which store actions can I turn on?
Order tracking lookup, shipping address updates before fulfillment, auto-refunds up to a limit you set, and custom discount codes. A replacement goes to you for review.
What can it do on a casino, a trading site, or any other website?
It answers from your notes and requests the actions you connected and turned on. Money movement waits for your approval.
What if a Shopify store also has a custom action setup?
The custom setup is what dasher uses. Integration & Widget can switch the store back to store actions.
How do I check that a lookup works?
Use Test connection in Integration & Widget and read the result before you rely on that lookup with customers.
Who places a bet?
The customer places a bet on your site. Dasher helps with the account questions you enabled, and money movement waits for you.
Does dasher give investment advice?
It helps with account questions you enabled. A request for personal investment advice goes to a person.
When can money move on its own?
A refund inside your automatic limit can finish when auto-refunds are on. A larger refund, a withdrawal, and any other money action wait until you approve them.
How do I turn an action off?
Store switches are in Train dasher. Connected actions for your site are in Integration & Widget. Turn off anything you do not want offered.
What if my site is down?
Dasher can still answer from your notes. A live lookup needs your site to respond.
Approvals and money
What is an approval?
A request dasher filed for you to accept or decline. The action runs when you approve it.
Where do I approve or reject?
On Overview. Approve runs the request. Reject declines it, and the action does not run.
Does a rejection message the customer by itself?
Reject stops the action. If the customer is still in the chat, tell them yourself.
What does the customer see while a request waits?
The chat shows that the request is waiting for you. A finished refund or withdrawal is described only after it has actually finished.
What if the site refuses after I approve?
The approval list marks it failed, and the screen shows the reason that came back.
How do automatic refunds work?
Turn on Auto-refunds and set Max automatic refund (USD) in Train dasher. A refund above that amount is filed for you to approve. With auto-refunds off, refunds wait for you too.
When can a shipping address change?
When Shipping address updates are on, and the order is still before fulfillment.
How do discount codes work?
When Custom discount codes are on. They are one-time codes from 5% to 15%.
What happens with a replacement?
A replacement is filed for you to review. It waits on Overview until you approve it.
What happens with abuse?
Dasher hands that chat to a person. Blocking a customer is a request you approve.
Can the same request run twice if I click Approve twice?
The first Approve or Reject handles it. Another click finds it already handled.

Integration & Widget has two choices. Team joins the chat live puts a person in the chat. Team follows up by email keeps dasher in the chat and lists the case so you can reply by email.
Is there a summary of a handed-off chat?
Yes. A short summary sits above the messages, and you can expand it.
How do I know something is waiting?
While the dashboard is open, Live inbox shows a waiting count, the browser tab title updates, and a short sound plays for a new one. A browser notification can appear when this browser already has permission.
Can I be notified away from the dashboard?
Alert webhook in Integration & Widget is optional. It is called for a refund or another request that needs you, and for a 1 or 2 star rating.
Do requests disappear if I close the tab?
They stay in Live inbox and on the approval list. Closing the dashboard leaves them there.
What is the playground?
The test chat on Overview, with sample orders listed beside it. Playground chats are saved with your other conversations and labeled playground.
Where do ratings go?
Ratings & Feedback. Customers leave 1 to 5 stars when a chat ends, plus an optional note. You can filter low scores and written notes. A 1 or 2 star rating can also hit the optional alert webhook.
What tones can I choose?
Friendly, Professional, and Concierge, in Train dasher.
Notes, language, and limits
How should I write notes?
In Train dasher, one fact at a time. A return window, your hours, or a bonus rule belong there. Write each note so it stays true.
What stays out of the notes?
Passwords, keys, and private credentials. Notes are facts dasher may tell a customer. Connection details belong in Integration & Widget.
An answer was wrong. How do I fix the next chat?
Join the chat if the customer is still there. Then correct the note. Later chats use the notes you saved.
Which language should the notes use?
Customers can write in the language they use. Write the note in that language when you want the answer to quote your rule accurately.
Can I delete a chat?
Resolve closes the live handoff. The transcript remains in All chats. These screens have no delete button for a chat.

These screens have no delete-account button. Sign out leaves the dashboard and keeps the site in place.
